Happy New Year!
We have a whole New Year laid out in front of us to:
- create adventure,
- explore possibilities,
- create new relationships and to nurture existing ones.
In January the focus is all about setting goals and taking action towards who we want to be. I love that about January. There is an excitement in the air as people launch themselves into their next version of themselves.
Usually, when we set goals, it is because we want to obtain something that will make us feel differently, to improve how we feel. So why not give this a try. Get out a pen and spend a few minutes really reflecting on these questions:
How do you want to feel in 2018?
Make this more than a one-word answer. I invite you to create a full description of what you want to feel as you move through 2018. Write in the present tense, like you already are that feeling.
How does that feeling show up in your body?
Being conscious of how to embody the feeling allows us to recognize it when it is there and move towards people, situations and experiences that help to create that feeling.
Embodying the feeling also helps us to recognize when the feeling is not there and move away from those experiences.
Being familiar with how the feeling we want to experience shows up in our body gives us the opportunity to invoke the feeling when we need it to support ourselves through challenging situations.
What experiences support you in feeling that way?
Reflect on experiences that you have had in the past that created those desired feelings within you. Imagine the experiences that you could have that would support you in feeling that way.
Make a list of them and then schedule a time to make them happen.
Who supports you in feeling that way?
You can name specific people but I encourage you to describe the characteristics of those people that support you in feeling that way. Describing the characteristics may just open you up to finding more people to support you in that feeling.
What do you need to transform or let go of to feel that way?
This is where you look at what habits and beliefs perhaps aren’t serving you and may just be what stops you from experiencing the feeling you desire for 2018.
I invite you to get really honest with yourself and really look at what you say to yourself.
Create and invoke that feeling daily
Now you have an understanding of how you want to feel, start to create moments for yourself that land you fully in that desired feeling. Invoke that feeling when you find yourself in a challenging situation.
Remember you are amazing. You are capable. You are unique and you are worth celebrating.
