We live in a world full of expectation

Expectations of who we are supposed to be, what we are supposed to accomplish and how we are supposed to express ourselves; a world where we can feel pressured to achieve, to reach the next goal, and to meet the next deadline. As we try to mould ourselves to fit the world we can lose sight of who we are and what we love about life. We can get lost in the rabbit hole of noticing what is wrong with the world and what still needs to get done. That sense of pressure can mask what is very right with our lives.

Notice what makes you feel love

It’s Valentine’s Day and it’s the perfect day to notice what makes you feel love, not feel loved but to feel love. Love is something that we can evoke within ourselves. It is not something that is done to us. We can invoke the feeling of love just by noticing the small things.

  • The first smell of chocolate as it enters your mouth, the taste, the texture.
  • The smile of a stranger.
  • The sound of a child giggling.
  • The feeling of fresh air as you step out after a long day of work.
  • The sense of belonging you feel when you are with the people who love you.
  • What it feels like to create something (a solution, a painting, a poem, a smile) beautiful.

Make a list

Take a moment to make a list of all the things that make you feel love. If you write them down you can tuck the list away and pull it out when you need to invoke a little love in your life.

Choose love today

Choose love today. Just notice it in all the small places it exists within you.

Happy Valentines Day.
