Start Fresh
For me September has always been a time of starting fresh, of looking forward to what is in store for me, relishing the feel of a new notebook and really feeling the change in the air. It is a time when trees burst into colour, fully celebrating all that they are and then letting go of all that was.
Reflect
Reflecting on the change of the season, I realize how much I look to the future, to my next goal, to accomplish the next task or to make the next improvement to myself, my work and my relationships. At times I find I measure myself against this ideal future, that vision of who I will become. The interesting thing about it is that the more I move toward that vision, the vision evolves. I am always running to catch-up.
We live in such a doing world. Sometimes in all that doing, in all that planning, in all that moving towards our goals, we don’t take time out and truly celebrate ourselves and our accomplishments.
Celebrate Yourself
When I interviewed Lisa Belanger, Founder of Knight’s Cabin a retreat for cancer survivors, for my book (due for release in 2018) she shared with me how her mother had created a scrapbook for her when she graduated with her Doctorate. The scrapbook was a beautiful compilation of all of Lisa’s accomplishments. It was a celebration of who Lisa was.
When we look back at all the things we have done in life, some things that we never thought possible, it can give us
You may not have a mother who will create a scrapbook for you but you can definitely take five minutes right now and remind yourself of how awesome you are.
Make a list of all the things worth celebrating about you.
I would love to hear what you have come up with.
Remember you are amazing. You are capable. You are unique and you are worth celebrating.
